Why doesn't ploughing the yard take care of the roof?
Because the load is on the roof, not on the path. Ploughing makes the route safe. The roof is about the structure and about snow that can fall. They are not the same visit.
When does the roof need attention?
When snow starts to move at the eaves, when ice builds up, or when the load is clearly heavy. Do not climb up to check it yourself. That is the job where people get hurt.
What can I do myself?
Clear the paths and keep grit down on your own yard if it is small and flat. Leave the roof, high eaves and large areas to us.
What goes wrong in a housing company?
People wait and say it will melt, and then the snow comes down onto the path at the wrong time. Liability does not wait for the next meeting. Snow removal and winter maintenance exists so the yard and the roof are decided separately, at the right time.
Do you cover on-call?
In winter, yes, when it is ice or falling snow. A call is better than your own ladder in the dark.
How do you separate the jobs in practice?
Ploughing, gritting and hauling snow away are one package. Clearing a roof and marking the danger zone are another. We say which one it is before the work starts.
